Question: I'm a US citizen with Medicare. If I live in Canada can I get medical coverage?

Answer: Traditional Medicare does not provide coverage outside the United States for any period of time.Medicare HMO's will provide coverage for emergency care outside the country but you must retain residence in their coverage area.

If you are taking a vacation outside the country you will need to purchase a health care policy to cover you for the time you are out of the country. You will need to check with the carrier for the maximum length of time coverage would be in effect. They would also let you know if coverage could be continued if you change your residence to an address outside the country.

Canada has Universal Health Coverage for it's citizens and legal residents. Each province manages coverage for it's residents. to be eligible for coverage you will need to meet the eligibiity requirements set up by each province. You would need to check with the Health Care Ministry of the provincial government you are planning on living in to recieve their eligibility requirments.
