Question - What could be making my father collapse?:
My father has just reached his 70's and is having a problem that the doctors he has been to have been unable to resolve and it is making his life misrable. He gets up early and mostly feels OK but not everyday. As the day progresses he may feel under the weather, but again he has good and bad days. When he feels bad, he feels giddy and feels as he is about to faint, and has to sit down. He complains of a pain in the back of the neck and head. While he is not feeling well and sometines at other times when he reads or watches TV he gets a pain in the right eye. He is very active but somedays he feel ill, but is not able to decsribe the exact problem. When asked it appears to be in his head as opposed to any where else.
He did collapse recently in the garden, came round and was able to make it to the house. He is becoming withdrawn and not wanting to go out incase he has a "turn". He has had a CAT scan and nothing was found. He has had blood test and nothing was found. He has worn a heart monitor for 24 hours and nothing was found. He is scheduled to wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours.
He was a plumber and did a lot of lifting and strenous work in his life, there was some thought that the muscles in his neck are pinching on his blood circulation but this has yet to be confirmed.
Guide Responds:
It certainly sound a if his physician is giving him all the appropriate tests. Any number of ailments can cause faintness and collapse, including TIA (transient ischemic attack) or heart arythmia. You'll also find it helpful to talk with others who may have similar experiences or problems. The best places to do that are our Forums and Chatroom.
