Question - How can I find health care for my Mother who is not a citizen?:
I have a question regarding my Mom, she is 70 years old, permenant Resident in the USA, and she moved in with me (New Jersey Resident). Do you know if there any healthcare programs that she will be eligible for. I tried Medicare last year and they said no, she is not eligible as she has to be living in NJ for at least 5 years. Do you know any state programs or any way to help. I even tried including her in My Medical coverage at work and they advised me that I cannot. NEED HELP. She is diabetic and needs regular health supervision
Guide Responds:
All states have different requirements for elegibility for Medicaid coverage and it sound as if you have found that New Jersy's are pretty tough. You may want to try talking to a social worker (try your local hospital). They are often goldmines of information about resources for those with no or limited resources. The other option would be to purchase a health insurance policy, but at your mother's age and with her health problems they can be expensive.
You'll also find it helpful to talk with others who may have similar experiences or problems. The best places to do that are our Forums and Chatroom.
