Question - How do you calculate the amount of fat in your diet?:

How do you calculate the total percentage of fat in your daily caloric and fat intake. I know that it should not be more than 30% but how did I calculate that to get the exact % I have consumed?

Guide Responds:

Experts recommend that no more than 30% of your total daily intake of nutrients be fat. The easiest way to do this is to become a student of food lables. If you need to consume 2000 calories to maintain your present weight you should consmume less than 65 grams of total fat. Of that 65 grams less than 20 grams should be saturated fat.

Fat has 9 calories per gram. For a 1000 calorie diet you should get no more than 330 calories from fat. Take that 330 calories and divide that by 9 and that works out to about 36 grams of fat. The recommended serving size for peanut butter is 2 tablespoons. This serving size contains 16 grams of fat. If I was on a 1000 calories diet that amount would take up almost half of my total daily fat intake.
