Question - Should we be concerned about a black spot on a toenail?:

My dad has a black spot on his toenail and we have no idea what it is. It came on another toe before, but it went away after awhile, so he didn't bother to find out information about it. It's sort of towards the middle and it's not near where the nail is attched to the toe. Is their a natural remedy to this? Do you know what this is? Should we be concered or just forget about it?

Guide Responds:

This could be a bruise or scab under the nail caused by bleeding under the nail (stubbing toe, dropping something on it). If this happened before and it went away it may have just reabsorbed or grownout along with the nail. If he is not sure though how it happened it could be a sign of decreased sensation in the toe. He may want to hav his physician check for diabetes or other circulatory disorders.

You'll also find it helpful to talk with others who may have similar experiences or problems. The best places to do that are our Forums and Chatroom.
