Aphasia

Definition: Disturbance or loss of ability to to comprehend or express speech. There are several different types of aphasia.

  • Amnestic - inability to remember words.
  • Ataxic - knowing what you want to say, but unable to utter words.
  • Auditory - loss of ability to comprehend spoken language.
  • Jargon - misuse of words.
  • Motor - loss of ability to ecprss one's thoughts in speech or writting.
  • Sensory - inabiilty to comprehend spoken or written language.
  • Visual - loss of ability to comprehend written language.

Also Known As: Aphasic.
