Generic Name: lansoprazole
FDA Drug Classification: Antiulcer, proton pump inhibitor
Action: Suppresses gastric secretions; blocks final step of acid production.
Uses: Used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (severe), conditions that cause excess secretion of gastric secretions (Kollinger-Ellison syndrome, systemic mastocytosis, multiple endocrine adenomas). Also used for treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers.
Adverse Reactions:
  • headache, dizziness, confusion, agitation, amnesia, depression
  • diarrhea, abdominal pain,vomiting,nausea, constipation, acid regurgitation
  • cough,nosebleed,asthma,bronchitis,shortness of breath
  • rash,urticaria,itchy skin
  • weight gain, gout
Precautions: Use with caution for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding and children
